Agile web development with Ruby on Rails
So I’ve decided to check out this new Ruby on Rails thing. The Rails framework is based on the Ruby programming language which has apparently been around for quite some time. But it has become more mainstream acceptance/approval due to the Rails framework. Ruby looks really cool. Rails might not be the best way to learn it but I’ll do it anyway just to get the feel for web development in Rails. I’ve been in some stuff in ASP.Net but its Webforms model provides a lot of abstraction over the whole HTTP thing.
Anyway I got this book on Agile Web Development with Rails. The 2nd edition (2005) is a bit dated and some things seem to have changed in Rails since then. But it still seems to be a pretty good book, so I’m will go through it and learn how Rails works. For all new stuff there’s always the internet. Instead of installing and configuring Ruby, Rails and other stuff like web servers etc. I’m using Instant Rails. All the required stuff is pre-configured and ready to run. No installation required. For an IDE, Aptana Rad Rails. I’ve configured it to use Instant Rails. I could’ve simply used something like Notepad++ but I like to have intellisense. So lets see if I can find the time to actually do it…
Check out this great post about Starting Ruby on Rails: What I Wish I Knew.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community inaugurate their first French mosque
By the grace of God, Ahmadis in France inaugurated their first ever mosque in France on Friday 10th October, 2008. Masjid Moubarak is located in the French town of Saint-Prix. Read more about it at a news report by a French television channel here. The mayor of Saint-Prix, Jean-Pierre Enjalbert was at first against the idea of a mosque in his town but later gave his approval after observing Ahmadis and listening to their peaceful message over the years.
The next one’s due to open in Berlin, this week InshAllah.
