Malaysian government set to go after Ahmadiyya Muslim Community

with 3 comments

Looks like the Malaysian state government is set to follow the same pattern against the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamat, followed in places like Pakistan and more recently Bangladesh and Indonesia. Seems like Islamic militant groups are pressuring them. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Canada recently issued the following press release.

Appease Mullah, Persecute law abiding Community: Malaysia takes another step closer to gross Human Rights violations

TORONTO, Dec. 22 /CNW/ - Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada condemns recent
statement from the Malaysian State Government against the Community's legal
activities in the State of Selangor. It is an act to appease the pressuring
Islamic militant groups working in such states in Malaysia.
The State Minister of Selangor - Malaysia, in charge of Islamic Affairs,
Dr Hassan Mohamed Ali was recently quoted by local media stating that 'action
would be taken against Jama`at (Ahmadiyya Muslim Community) leaders soon.' In
the same article he further claimed that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at was the
'last of the deviant groups operating in the state'. Another newspaper quoted
him as saying, 'Qadiani teaching would be buried' and that the authorities
were discussing how to 'solve the problem' of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at.
As a first step, Ahmadi officials in the country were ordered to take
down two signboards located at the Ahmadiyya central mosque.
Comments made by State Minister demonstrate a typical pattern that has
been followed in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia. First, the Ahmadiyya
Muslim Jama`at is denounced as heretical, followed by state sanctions
curtailing the life and liberty of Ahmadi Muslims. The persecution starts with
gross violation of human rights, including murder of prominent Ahmadi Muslims,
and leads to legislation that prohibits Ahmadi Muslim from practicing their
faith.
Life of Ahmadi Muslims is thus put in grave danger. In the very recent
past violent actions were taken by fanatics in Indonesia and Pakistan. In a
wave of violence directed at Ahmadis two doctors were martyred; only last week
another Ahmadi was severely injured in an attack on his life.
Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada expressed deep anguish on
irresponsible statements made by Malaysian Minister. Lal Khan Malik, the
president of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama'at in Canada, stated, "It is preposterous
that Muslim leaders are condemning Ahmadi Muslim Jama`at; while in November
2008 at a UNO hosted Interfaith Conference, leaders of 80 Islamic States
expressed concern at 'serious instances of intolerance, discrimination,
expressions of hatred and harassment of minority religious communities of all
faiths".
"It is time that Muslim leaders act on their words" Mr. Malik added.
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is a religious organization, international in
its scope, an embodiment of the benevolent message of Islam - peace. The
community lives by the motto 'Love for All - Hatred for None'.

According to this news story the state government is getting ready to pursue the community there starting with banning their mosque. This is what, Dr Hasan Ali, the State Islamic Affairs, Malay Customs, Infrastructure and Basic Amenities Committee chairman, has to say

“The action by the district office and the local council is the first phase. We hope that it will send out the message that we are going after them,”

“If they remain defiant and refuse to abandon their teachings, we will start looking at sterner action, including arresting the leaders behind it,”

They’re also following the pattern by spreading false rumors and allegations against the community by declaring things like

Among its beliefs are that the members are prophets and descendants of slaves (ghulams) and that the haj should be performed in India. It has also changed verses in the Quran.

Lol. I’ve heard some really weird false stuff said about Ahmadis and their beliefs but this one, I have to say is new even for me. Members are prophets and descendants??? That’s the most idiotic thing I’ve heard in recent times. I don’t know, maybe that’s the kind of stuff the Malaysian mullahs use. I guess every nation’s mullah have their own style. Anyway let’s see how it goes… Read the rest of this entry »

Ahmadiyya Annual Jalsa Salana Qadian postponed

without comments

The annual world convention i.e. Jalsa Salana in Qadian, Gurdaspur has been cancelled until further notice on the orders of the fifth Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community. It was due to be held in Qadian from 26th to 29th December as part of the Khilafat’s centenary celebrations.

In a press Release issued by Mohammad Nasim Khan spokesman of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamat, India said Sunday that the supreme head of the community had already arrived in India on 23rd November and made successful tour of the community centers in Tamilnadu and Kerala when Mumbai was rocked by ghostly and dastardly  terrorist attacks which claimed many innocent lives of Indians and foreigners, caused heavy damage to national property and sent shock waves of terror throughout the country.

Strongly condemning these attacks in his Friday sermon of 5th December delivered from Delhi, the supreme head of the Ahmadiyya Jamat termed them as acts against humanity. He further said that whoever committed these attacks and the forces behind them were acting against the teachings of Islam and the noble practice of the Holy Prophet (saw). This tragic incident led to the postponement of his visit to Qadian and some other parts of the India. Jamat-Ahmadiyya express their sincere thanks to the Government of India especially the Ministries of Home and External Affairs for issuing visas to thousands of enthusiastic devotees of the community in Pakistan and other foreign countries to attend the jalsa and for making adequate protocol and security arrangements for the Supreme Head of the community. Similarly Ahmadiyya Jamat also express their gratitude to the state Governments of Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Orissa, Punjab and Himachal for making proper arrangements to facilitate the visit  of their Supreme head. Mohammad Nasim Khan express his regrets to one and all irrespective of their faith who had planned to attend this jalsa.

The Jalsa will now be held later when the situation is favourable by the grace of Allah.

The Wire – 3rd Season is awesome

with one comment

The Wire

Since I had nothing much to do this week (still waiting to join my new job and all) i decided to go out and buy the DVD for the 3rd season of The Wire. I had already watched the 4th season before this. Cost me Rs.300 for 3 DVDs. But I have to say, it was totally worth it. Great stuff. Great stuff indeed. For those who haven’t watched it its based on Baltimore, a city in the US of A. The cast is mainly the Baltimore Police department and the drug dealers but each season focuses of stuff like politics, schools, news papers, racial tensions etc. I think I’m going to get the first 2 seasons now…if I can find them…

Pakistan isolated on the big Eid

with one comment

Today the big Eid was celebrated with great gusto in the Islamic republic of Pakistan. Animals were slaughtered in the name of the Lord. Mostly goats and cows. Some even went for camels. The rainy season had come again here the other day and it was a pretty muddy Eid because of all the rain over the last few days. And since there’s no system of drainage in this ancient city of the Saints there were lots of water reservoirs all over the city. But I was able to manage around them. The rain got rid of the cold that was starting to creep in. Now its back to normal. Not so normal for the children in Ziarat though. Children without warm clothes living in tents in sub zero temperatures. Lost their homes cause of the earthquake which keep on coming. Not a very pleasant Eid for them unfortunately.

Since there isn’t much to do here (on Eid or otherwise) I went out and rented the latest Bond movie called Quantum of Solace. Anyway it turned out be rather disappointing although it was still weirdly cool for some reason.

In other big news Pakistan finally caved under international pressure and captured the Lashkar leaders allegedly responsible for the Mumbai attacks. Not from Mureedkay where their HQ is located but from Azad Kashmir. Probably trying to give the impression that Azad Kashmir is kind of semi autonomous and so they do what they do there. There was some fighting and the ’security forces’ aka the army levelled their camp with dynamite. Further confirming the fact that, as always Pakistan’s the source of terror. While Pakistani TV channels continued to maintain Pakistan’s innocence that there are no terror camps in Pakistan territory. Even Pakistani people believe that to be true. Some were even saying that the Mumbai incident was choreographed by RAW and BJP to win elections or something like that. But no one in the international community believes that to be true. No Muslim country, not even China, considered a great friend to Pakistan issued a statement in Pakistan’s favour. It seems that we’ve been diplomatically isolated. No body is willing to stand by us anymore. Because of these insane attacks our Caliph had to cut short his trip to India and no one from out of India will be going to the Jalsa Salana Qadian this year. Ah well that’s life…maybe next year…or the year after that…

Last day at work

with 3 comments

So its my last day here at my job for 2 years. I came to work for this company when I graduated in CS more than 2 years ago. This was my first job. I earned my first paycheck here. Every Pakistani boy dreams of securing a job after getting a degree. That dream for me, was fulfilled here when I walked in two years ago. I resigned almost a month ago after getting an offer for job closer to home.It was a tough decision. But hopefully a correct one. It was now or never. Days like these are always a little sad. You are leaving something you’ve been part of for quite some time. Its difficult to part ways but sometimes fate has other plans.

I had a reasonably good time here. I learned most of what I know about software engineering during the last two years here. Met some interesting people. Saw some interesting things. Read a lot of blogs on .Net and other software engineering stuff. Learned the truth about things. Unraveled the secrets of the universe. Download a lot of eBooks. Didn’t read most of them though. Maybe some day I will read all of them. Learned a lot about Microsoft technologies. None of them in detail though. But I got the concepts. I got the vision. And that’s mostly what we need anyway. I will miss the daily nehro-nehr trips. Anyways I wish this company best of luck for the future.

I guess I’ll be joining my new job after the Eid holidays. A completely new environment. New people and new ‘processes’ (But old technology probably which could be bad). I’ll have to prove myself once again, show them what I’m capable of. But like always each problem is an opportunity in disguise. It will be a no Internet zone. Going from a project based company to a product based company will be difficult transition. There won’t be any new technologies. No cutting edge beta software R&D stuff. Mostly just maintenance and integration with old products. That should be nice. Good opportunity to learn what the oldies used to do. They say Old is Gold for a reason. So hopefully something good will come out of it. I’ll probably need to get some Internet at home if I have to continue blogging though…
